Sailing holidays in Norway | Offshore Yacht Charter

Norway’s coast consists of countless fjords and islands. As a result, the Archipelago offers sheltered sailing in spectacularly beautiful scenery.

In the south of Norway, there is almost no tide and the rock formations hold the warmth of the sun, offering nice opportunities for swimming. Norway’s west coast consists of deep fjords going far inland, with steep high-rised mountains and beautiful waterfalls, as well as some nice towns. To the north, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged with glaciers and lots of wildlife.

Sailing along in Norway

Norwegians are proud of their beautiful country and the Norwegian flag flies almost everywhere. Its population consists of just 6 million people, while it is almost 10 times larger than the Netherlands.

The Norwegian coast is similar to that of Chile, but more accessible. A number of cities like Trondheim, Alesund, Bergen and Stavanger are easily accessible by plane and between these cities we can make a beautiful sailing trip along islands, small harbours and sail deep into the fjords.

Sailing along in Norway will provide a nice balance of travelling, relaxing, experiencing culture and getting a breath of fresh air. You don’t need any sailing experience for our sailing trips in Norway.

Sailing Voyages in Norway

Our sailing trips in Norway are mostly sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean swell. The many islands and small harbours offer many opportunities allowing us to anticipate on weather and wind.
Thus, the exact schedule depends on the wind, but the beautiful Norwegian fjords such as Hardangerfjord, Sognefjord and the beautiful Geirangerfjord are definitely on our programme!

On our ‘category C’ sailing holidays there will also be time for sightseeing. This means that the vessel will stay a day in a harbor and if you like, you can make a long walk for example.

The Norwegian coast is a day or two of sailing from Scotland. The Orkney and Shetland islands used to be a springboard for the Vikings to the Faroe Islands, on to Iceland, further to Greenland and even to America (Leif Eriksson discovered New Foundland 500 years before Columbus).

Sailing experience is not required. At the start of the sailing holiday, the crew will tell you about the ship, sailing and safety on board.

We will regularly have to carry out a sailing maneuver. The sailing enthusiast can help us, but nothing is mandatory, after all it is your holiday, you can simply enjoy and relax. Apart from the skipper, there is also a bosun on board, who also does the cooking (with the help of the passengers).

Roundtrips in Norway

If you want to make a round trip but without tarred roads, a round trip on a sailing yacht is the ideal opportunity. The beauty of these round trips is, of course, the sailing. Purely on wind energy and using the tide, we sail from one place to another. Every day you will be in a new port or anchorage and you will get to places you would otherwise not easily get to. Moreover, your luggage travels with you, quite conveniently.

You will find yourself on board in a group of like-minded people; people who love the water and nature. Sailing together quickly creates a group atmosphere. You will sleep and eat on board and on the last evening we will all go out for dinner.

You can book individually as a solo traveller (we do not charge a single-person surcharge), but you can also book as a couple or with a small group of friends or family. It is also possible to rent the ship with crew privately (private charter), depending on our availability. In our sailing holiday schedule you will find a list of participants on all sailing voyages so that you can see in advance who is sailing with us and how many places are still available.

Eco-friendly and sustainable round trips in Norway

A round trip with Offshore Yacht Charter is sustainable and environmentally friendly, as the Cherokee is mainly driven by the wind and currents. We also use solar panels and a wind generator. During the sailing holidays we cover an average of 300 kilometres per week on wind power. In addition, we use biodegradable cleaning products on board and buy organic provisions as much as possible. For people who like to eat vegetarian, we also cook vegetarian meals.

An adventurous round trip with a small group, visiting new coasts and harbours, with good food and relaxed people make for a great group atmosphere and lots of companionship. We therefore hope to welcome you on one of our sailing trips aboard sailing yacht Cherokee!
